“Designers love a problem”, the line stuck with me. Problems, what kind of problems?
Problems like – why am I so angry at the thought of bearing the burdens as an eldest child?
Problems like – whether I would stand by or question my decision of moving out of NYC?
And within these problems, the layers. I suppose that’s what therapists do, isn’t it? That they peel back the layers and ask the questions that are in fact within questions.
Is it more about where I’d be moving (back) to or is it about the moving away itself? Is it about the stress and responsibilities, or is it actually more about the resentment of the younger sibling having it easier?
Design you life, the book prompts; I suppose it is now time, better than ever, to begin questioning these things through the lens of a life’s designer. IF – and in fact, indeed – there are problems, then the question is more about how to solve them, and less about being frustrated by them, isn’t it? Far easier said than done. Far far easier...
